Utilizing WFH Efficiently

Being a mom of 2 young kids and a full time working professional, proper time management is highly imperative for me to utilize the WFH duration during COVID efficiently. This WFH is not a normal one, now the kids too are schooling from home. Optimistically, this is the right time for any self improvement if planned and utilized in the correct way. Few tips for better time management and best utilization of COVID WFH: In the work front:     * Start the official hours as BAU or little earlier if at all young toddler's online class has to be accompanied during official hours.    * Take the usual short breaks, socialize with people around.    * Avoid Social Media to during working hours as like in office. There are enough distractions while WFH, nothing additional in form of social media to bring down productivity.    * Respect and Value the time of fellow team members, invite only the needed for the meetings, have short meetings.    *...

Wandering to write..

Its been a long while since I wrote. Two kids along with work schedule occupied my time. Last time I wrote was when my younger one showed the signs to sprang up. She is 5 now! Now in the mid of COVID lock down my thoughts are wandering on what to write. A lot - on being a happy mother, on technology, on project management, WFH, on my hobby - art.. aha, that's a big list!

Being a Working MOM

"A Woman Can't Have It All!" - Indira Nooyi said that in an interview. Working mom is the one who understands the inside story of it. Having a full time professional career and bring up kids altogether is not an easy task, but definitely not an impossible one. As like any man, a woman too starts her career with tons of passion, ambition and pride. She too marches in par with (might be ahead of) her male colleagues in each step until the stagnation point of balancing between life and work hits. There are quite of lot of women who have given up their career to bring up their kids. Percentage of women at executive levels in any corporate/institution is merger in comparison with that in the entry level. On the professional front she struggles to give up and leave behind the dreams, ambitions and passion which she lived upon once. On the personal side, she is not ready to compromise on cooking he kid's favourite or spending quality time with the kid in the mid of hect...

OCMJEA - Resources

I just started out my plans and preparations for OCMJEA - Oracle Certified Master Java Enterprise Architect. Software Estimation

Being worn-out with just project estimation and re-estimation alone for the past few months, why not write some thing about software estimation though its not a small topic for me write few lines and finish off. So, here goes a very small snap-shot... As like the saying, 'Don't fail to plan unless you plan to fail', a crystal clear planning is the basic necessity for successful execution of a project and estimation forms of the one important basics of the plan. By Software estimation what we estimate on:         1) Effort : Estimation of amount of work to be done. Eg: Number of Function Points involved or LOC to be developed.         2) Time & Cost : Time needed to get the work done. Usually expressed in work-months/man-months/Person-weeks.         3) Resource : Involves estimation of hardware (Well we can't develop a cloud management system with just 2 Desktop ter...

Back!

Can't stop again! Renewing my blogging habit after a long time, its been a long interval this time. Can't imagine how I missed blogging while there were a lots happening around... Oracle Acquisition of SUN, Booming of Social Networks, UPA's second term, Introduction of CSAT, SCAM filled CWG.... in the personal front: moving back to Chennai, its unbearable climate ... a lot more. But now, I pledge to continue non-stop over the hurdles.

It's cloudy everywhere

Cloud Computing !!! Cloud Computing !!! Cloud Computing!!!! - Its Cloud everywhere. So, whats that? Something like grid computing? Is it providing Hardware as a Service along with SaaS ? Some interesting short videos which explains this, really interesting:

To be Java programmer is unfair??

"Employement agencies only need Java programmers" - Is it unfair? Got the reference from a tweet of Sun, a choir from Finland: But few more to muse about, "Women are still paid less than men", "Jobs go to China".

Obama Mania

TV, FM, News Paper, Net... it's OBAMA everywhere. Conversation in a FM program here in Bangalore this morning:         FM      : Who is the president of America?         Caller : Obama               (May not be a write answer as of now)         FM      : Who is the president of India?         Caller : ????....gr####@@@@...

Atlast... it's announced

This not about the victory of Barack Hussein Obama ... its about the announcement of the highest civilian award in one of the largest democracies of the world. Bharat Ratna , the highest honor awarded for an Indian, has been trivialized with politicians, demanding the honor to be awarded to the party leaders, was last announced in 2001. In a nation where there were leaders who said NO to top awards for great genuine reasons, Bharath Ratna was not announced for the past 6 years just because of fierce politicking. Lots of names were on row: Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Jyoti Basu, Biju Patnaik, Kanshi Ram, Karpoori Thakur, Chaudhary Charan Singh, Jagjivan Ram, Jyotiba Phule ... a lot more. Atlast on 4th of November 2008, they announced a non-politician: "The Hindustani classical music legend Pandit Bhimsen Joshi is chosen for the Bharat Rathna award ".

Design Patterns - Command Pattern

Image
As said in the last post, here I'm starting with my first post on Design Pattern implementation in Java. A Small Intro On Core Design Patterns:         Many define Pattern with different statements. The most common one: pattern is a solution for common and reoccurring design issue. The term Pattern was coined by Christopher Alexander in his book, "A Pattern Language: Towns, Buildings, and Construction" . GoF classified patterns based on Purpose and Scope. Purpose criteria classifies patterns based on what the pattern does:         1)Creational patterns - dealts with object Creation         2)Structural patterns - composition of class and objects,         3)Behavioral patterns - responsibility of class and objects. Scope classifies based on where it applies to : class or object. Let me start my series on Design patterns with one...

Blogging on Technology

I thought of having my technical thoughts out of this and so created one for that long back. Tried to have it as a team blog and it didn't worked out. So back again here for my technical thoughts too. Being in to yet another software servicing company in India, no need to say part of my work is in to AMS and some times in to ADM. As far I've witnessed so far in this AMS/ADM industry, people's curiosity to learn upcoming technology (especially in the open source area) dies day by day until and unless it is needed in their day-to-day work. That triggered me the thought of writing few things about what I know or which I learn or wish to learn. A snap shot of my to-blog list:        1) Core design patterns implementation in Java        2) RMI and CORBA        3) Add-ONs used in basic Java application     ...

Sachin & Sensex

Image
Sachin and Sensex used to hit records together. Latest of Sachin: Highest scorer in test cricket and the latest in the Bombay Stock Exchange, sensex plunged below10K, both happened on the same day.Similarly when Sachin crossed 15K mark in his ODI career, Sensex too crossed 15K. On that day, TOI published the milestones in the front page: Most of time, its like when Sachin did well Sensex flattered, when Sachin slumped Sensex rocked.Hope this time, Sensex will catchup with Sachin soon!!

Indianness - Punctuality

Certain words in the dictionary remain as an antonym to typical Indian nature. No need to tell, "PUNCTUALITY" is one among them. Shashi Tharoor's series in TOI on Indianness had a lot to mention about it. One among the very first things that flashes in our mind when we think of our punctual habits is the timing being maintained by our transport system. Be it road or rail or air: no partiality, its same everywhere, none used to be on time :) I don't think, we ever we had a history of all flights on single day in a single airport took-off and landed on time. But history changes and the gets the credit too! Yes, this is about none other than landing of two spice jet flights in the nation's second private bound airport - Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. The two spicejet flights from Ahemedabad and Mumbai landed 40 mins ahead of schedule at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on the day when the airport's commercial operations commenced. But the most surpris...

Back again the blogosphere !!! Was thinking about updating the blog for a long while and infact had a long list to blog. But this one triggered me to do this atonce. Here is my experience on the same and that too with my most favorite platform !!! While surfing the net, saw a link stating : "Father of SOA publishes, Security in SOA article... ". With the expectation of some Gregg / Marc to be the "Father of SOA", opened it and surprised to read, "Rajiv Gupta, widely known as the father of SOA.... " While browsing that site, here it came : Just with a curiosity to know what the error is, clicked, "click here" in the above, Didn't got any thing more. So thought why not see the technical information and again : "click here". Technical information about the error report : Even time stamp too in hexa ! Got nothing from a message from the most user friendly OS. Great going MS (!!!)

Job satisfaction.....

When a job is done with utmost interest and commitment, no other enjoyment is equivalent to it. I believe, if we do a thing with real interest and true commitment it will be a success always. Realizing the final outcome of that effort will be amazing. Satisfaction got from the output of such a job can't be compared with any thing else. More than just a mere job it will be a personal bond with life. It will become the first priority in life. All these are not realized when things move in the right path. When some thing wrong happens unfortunately and all the efforts go off with out any gain.....nothing is bad as like that...it’s not so easy to accept such things to happend....

Tremors.....EarthQuake

Oh God... it’s my 3rd experience here in Japan. But this is the bigger one.....heart got stuck for a sec....this is wat I thought to write, a minute after the tremor yesterday. I have experienced tremors for 4 times in my life...but this last one freightened me a little. First one happened tht morning on 26th Dec 2004. It was a Sunday and I was awakened at abt 6:15 am itself by a short tremor which last for hardly less than a min. Then came the news, sea water is getting into the city, Chennai.... no one judged tht it's Tsunami, the killer wave... its an unforgettable day which changed the life of many. Second one... it happened just 3 days after I landed in Tokyo in August 2005. It's nearly 3'O clock, after the noon. I felt as something is shaking ...oh my goodness it’s an earth quake..the building shaked for nearly 3 times. I was shocked. There was no reaction from most of my team mates, very few in my team got disturbed and just whispered to their neighbor, "Jishin...
